Joaquin “Joe” Claussell is a Brooklyn-born DJ, producer and remixer whose work bridges soulful house, jazz and Afro-diasporic rhythms. Drawing from New York’s diverse musical culture and his Puerto Rican heritage, he has developed a distinctive approach that connects electronic music with ancestral influences, live instrumentation and spiritual expression.
A key figure in New York’s underground, Claussell co-founded the influential labels Spiritual Life Music and Ibadan Records, and helped shape the legendary Body & Soul sessions alongside François K and Danny Krivit. His extensive catalog includes remixes and collaborations with artists such as Femi Kuti, Herbie Hancock and Nina Simone. Through his Cosmic Arts platform and Sacred Medicine project with Ron Trent, Claussell continues to explore music as a space for cultural connection, improvisation and collective experience.
